I stopped supporting Amazon, not because I dislike their services or products. I boycott Amazon because of an image —a clear and disturbing image showing how deranged and weird it is when we see the guy we helped to become super rich trying to destroy the very system that made him prosperous, as if they had forgotten who made him rich and thought that his money came from his good looks.
But what is even more disturbing is that we as a country are acting in the same way; working to destroy ourselves. At least some of us, but let’s say many of us, are willing to go along and destroy our friends and allies who are the source of our insanely wealthy way of life. Americans think they are rich by some God given right to be rich. It’s almost amusing to see the parallels created by the collective politico-economic insanity we live in. Is this what decadence looks like? More on decadence later…
Destroying Democracy with democracy’s money
But I’m writing this to talk about the power of an idea. Everything begins with an idea in someone’s head. And the idea that our oligarchs are supporting a regime designed to destroy us is a game-changer to me. Because these techno oligarchs, Jeff, Zak, Tim, and the Google guy, didn’t come from old money, they were made rich thanks to our back breaking fucking money. We paid for their success.
We all saw the ass kissing parade at poopy diapers’ coronation. But they did more, they showered the Agent Orange with loads of millions. They were OK with devastating everything good we have in life, so they can be even richer. They knew better; they could just as well have at least kept quiet. But you know how it goes: “The Hottest Places in Hell Are Reserved for Those Who in a Period of Moral Crisis Maintain Their Neutrality”. However, it gets worse; they helped the criminal asswipe ascend to power.
If you feel powerless and robbed, you’re not alone, but feel no more. You have a powerful weapon right in your pocket right now. No need to kill anyone. This weapon is your money. Be proactive in how you spend your money and stop supporting corporations that don’t care who made them rich. But do even better, you have the right to an idea, and ideas are what changes the world.
Some argue that boycotting Amazon alone is not a good idea. They are too big and not supporting them will only hurt the workers. In The Nation’s article “Don’t Boycott Amazon”, Alexis Grenell thinks it’s a better idea to ask more from them since they are an insanely customer-oriented company. I say boycotting is a fine, good start. However, in my previous article, I delved into the details of Amazon’s shortcomings and the poor practices, and most of the points of why we should boycott them without any guilt. Take a read…
The self-inflicted wound
It's amusing how everything is interconnected in our small world. Communication is immediate, and time and space are no longer barriers. What we think in our living room right now has mirror images everywhere. And when individuals begin to protest a noble cause, entire countries do likewise.
We are witnessing a paradigm shift regarding how the world sees the United States. However, the key takeaway here is that they are divesting in the U.S. In the same way, we’re showing the democratically produced oligarchs that they have nothing; the world is about to reveal that American exceptionalism is an illusion. America decided to barbecue its biggest cash cow.
What is so interesting to me is that Amazon, as a distributor of mass-produced plastic mostly unnecessary crapy goods from China feed directly into the notion America has a God given right to consume mindlessly. Amazon’s state-of-the-art marketing and sales design makes it effortless to shop, creating an addictive feedback loop from hell.
Our mass consumption at incredibly cheap prices creates a false notion that we have never-ending wealth. But this wealth is created by this same feedback loop. The world invests in America, so America buys these goods, and the ball keeps rolling.
In the process, we are supporting child labor, slave labor, and an increasingly out-of-control pollution in our land and oceans across the globe.
But the problem is that we have become so arrogant, we want more. We’re sold on the idea that we are being taken advantage of. That they took our manufacturing jobs; why can’t we make iPhones in America?
As the world divests America and the dollar is no longer the standard reserve currency, Americans are in for a surprise. They will no longer have the money to consume the endless piles of crap. Because what keeps us rolling indefinitely is that the world keeps buying our debt and with this money with buy China’s crap. Will the circle be broken?
Amazonian decadence
The signs of decadence of the oligarchs are undeniable. One does not have to look far and scratch one's head to see the kinds of absurdities they create and espouse with their massive fortunes. Instead of paying their fair share of taxes, they have a “let them eat cake” production value. Elon Musk spends billions like they are thousands, to convince the world he is our savior, and that we should all go live on Mars in a frozen cave with massive lumps of cancer and eat our own poop.
Jeff Bezos sends a large dick filled with pretty woman to the sexosphere for some instagram influencing oportunity. All disguised as some old, outdated concept of scientific exploration and reviving the “woman in space” notion, when in reality, all they did was sit tight and hope everything went well, and then produce the ultimate video of beautiful females floating at the expense of sexy Jeff. Lord. And you, too, will be able to do it for a mere $200,000 to $500,000+ per seat.
The Idea that changes everything
I look at myself and see that I was once an avid Amazon shopper. I have recommended them, and I’ve advertised Amazon for free. I told my friends how good the Prime credit card was, and the rewards program was the only rewards program worth having. I subscribed to Prime; I downloaded books. I look at ads of other web stores, copy the product’s name, and shop on Amazon instead. All of this came to a screeching halt.
But what made me change my mind so radically? It was a single idea in my mind, a small idea that had no form. And I hope many of us have this ideal too.
I still believe the rewards program was the best program ever. I’ve received hundreds of dollars in my points for dollar rewards. But I gave it all away. Now, I am writing articles to encourage others to boycott Amazon. I want to see them bleed, lose their value, and weaken. However, something happened that made all the difference and changed my mind in a way I could not have foreseen. An image changed everything. This image gives me hope that we can shape the future with our intentions.
What will be the future of this corporation when only a fraction of its support goes away? And what will be the future of the United States when other countries withdraw their support from us? Our power is in our numbers.
I canceled my membership to Amazon 2 months ago and it felt really good and I want everybody to do the same it's easy just go to your account scroll to the bottom of the page and cancel membership easy as that do it now!
I am already there and I highly recommend it. I am finding out that I can easily live w/o it. Let’s bring back our local stores. Let’s rebuild our “downtowns”.
